Freshmen Non-Resident Scholarships

If you've worked hard to be one of the top students at your high school, you'll be glad to know the University of New Mexico is paying attention - and paying thousands of dollars each year in merit-based scholarships. There are literally hundreds of different opportunities available. We won't kid you - it is a very competitive process and the academic level is high, but so are the rewards.

Regents Scholarship

Complete Admissions Application and Scholarship Application by December 1

Approximately $18,337 plus the Amigo Scholarship per year

Renewable for 4 years

31 ACT (1420 SAT*) and 3.9 Unit GPA
*2016 SAT

Freshmen Regents Scholars:

1. Complete 15 new credit hours with a 3.3 GPA each semester (fall and spring semesters).
2. Live in the Scholars Wing in Hokona Hall.

Sophomore And Above:

Complete 15 new credit hours with a 3.3 GPA each semester (fall and spring semesters).
 
This scholarship is renewable for four years (8 consecutive semesters) provided you maintain the requirements.

National Scholars

Admitted to UNM by
February 1

Approximately $18,337 plus the Amigo Scholarship per year

Renewable for 4 years

National Merit

UNM National Scholars:

Complete 15 new credit hours with a 3.3 GPA each semester (fall and spring semesters).

This scholarship is renewable for four years (8 consecutive semesters) provided you maintain the requirements.

Amigo

For best consideration: Admitted to UNM by
February 1 for Fall semester, October 1 for Spring semester

Approximate value of $14,986 per year

Plus a $200/year stipend ($100/semester)

Renewable for 4 years

*No Scholarship Application Required

23 ACT (1130 SAT*) and 3.5 Unit GPA or 26 ACT (1240 SAT*) and 3.0 Unit GPA
*2016 SAT

UNM Amigo Scholars:

Complete 15 new credit hours with a 3.0 GPA each semester (fall and spring semesters).

This scholarship is renewable for four years (8 consecutive semesters) provided you maintain the requirements.

Colorado Reciprocal

For best consideration: Admitted to UNM by
February 1 for Fall Semester, October 1 for Spring Semester

Recipient pays New Mexico resident tuition rates (valued at approximately $14,986/year).

Renewable for 4 years

A limited number of tuition waivers are available. Recipients will be awarded through a selective process.

Colorado Reciprocal Recipients:

Complete 15 new credit hours with a 3.0 GPA each semester (fall and spring semesters).

This tuition waiver is renewable for four years (8 consecutive semesters, 4 consecutive semesters for transfer) provided you maintain the requirements.

Western Undergraduate
Exchange Programs
(WUE & WUE Plus)

 

For best consideration: Admitted to UNM by
February 1 for Fall Semester, October 1 for Spring Semester

WUE recipients pay 1.5 times the resident rate. WUE Plus recipients pay New Mexico resident tuition rate. 

WUE valued at approximately $11,510. WUE Plus valued at approximately $14,986. Renewable for 4 years.

WUE: 19 ACT (980 SAT*) and 3.0 Unit GPA.

WUE Plus: 22 ACT (1100 SAT*) and 3.0 Unit GPA.

Eligible candidates are residents of AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MT, ND, NV, SD, OR, UT, WA, WY; must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

WUE Recipients:

Complete 15 new credit hours with a 3.0 GPA each semester (fall and spring semesters).

This tuition waiver is renewable for four years (8 consecutive semesters, 4 consecutive semesters for transfer) provided you maintain the requirements.

Lobo Undergraduate
Exchange Programs
(LUE & LUE Plus)

 

For best consideration: Admitted to UNM by February 1 for Fall Semester, October 1 for Spring Semester

LUE recipients pay 1.5 times the resident rate. LUE Plus recipients pay New Mexico resident tuition rate.

LUE valued at approximately $11,510.

LUE Plus valued at approximately $14,986. Renewable for 4 years.

LUE: 19 ACT (980 SAT) and 3.0 Unit GPA.

LUE Plus: 22 ACT (1100 SAT) and 3.0 Unit GPA.

Eligible candidates are residents of states not included in the WUE region; must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

LUE Recipients:

Complete 15 new credit hours with a 3.0 GPA each semester (fall and spring semesters).

This tuition waiver is renewable for four years (8 consecutive semesters, 4 consecutive semesters for transfer) provided you maintain the requirements.
